
In what seems like a similar story lately, the Cottey Comets and Central Baptist Lady Mustangs were close after one quarter, but Cottey would pull away in the 2nd and 3rd quarters for a 80-58 victory.
Sarah Hunt would lead the charge in Conway, AR on Thursday night, going 9-12 from the field on her way to 30 points. Hunt's 30 would lead all scorers, while she was joined in double figures by Claudia Hadlock with 12. Autumn Wallace was the leading rebounder for the Comets with 7, while Dally Coulter, Lesley Chalmers, and AuShae Farris each grabbed 6 boards. Akyria James had 5 assists to top the squad, with Hadlock just behind with 4. In addition to her offensive prowess, Hunt grabbed 5 steals for Cottey.
It was also another record breaking night, with Sarah Hunt taking over 2nd all-time in Cottey career scoring, passing former Comet All-American Lacy Leonard. The senior class has the opportunity to rewrite multiple records for the Comet Basketball program this season.
The game on Thursday was short on drama, but still an important game for the standings. Cottey got things started in the first quarter with two 3-pointers from Claudia Hadlock as the Comets put 17 points up in the 1st. The next two quarters would be two of their best scoring quarters all season, putting up 25 points in each frame. Sarah Hunt went nuclear in the 2nd quarter, putting up 15 points and grabbing 2 steals. The 3rd quarter was more of a balanced attack from Cottey, with seven different Comets putting points on the board in the frame. The 4th quarter was a bit of a slower pace, with Cottey seeing out the victory.
The win elevates Cottey to 14-6 Overall, 10-4 in American Midwest Conference play. Cottey returns home for a huge matchup with Mission University on Saturday for a 1pm tip.
