Conway, Ark. – Looking to continue their momentum in the American Midwest Conference Tournament, Central Baptist College softball took on #1 seed Missouri Baptist in the winner's bracket at City of Colleges Park. CBC (29-24) lost in heartbreaking fashion to MBU (42-6) 7-6 before eliminating Crowley's Ridge (19-26) 7-0 to move into the semifinals on their home field.
GAME ONE – MBU 7, CBC 6
MBU took the lead in the second, 1-0, before CBC, the visitors in the contest, struck back in the third on a three-run home run by Kinley Johnson. The Mustangs saw their lead trimmed to 3-2 in the bottom half, but added an insurance run in the fifth on a groundout by Johnson to make it 4-2. A three-run fifth by the Spartans put CBC down 5-4 after five. Baylie Ainsworth hit her second home run of the season to tie the score at five in the sixth. MBU retook the lead in the sixth before Johnson drove in her fifth run of the contest with a single to right too tie the game at six in the seventh. MBU would then hit a walk off home run to send the Mustangs to the elimination bracket.
GAME TWO – CBC 7, CRC 0
Johnson's 13th home run of the season put the Mustangs ahead 2-0 in the first and that was all that Alex Jeter needed. Jeter threw a complete-game two-hit shutout while striking out three for her 15th win of the season. The score remained 2-0 until the fourth when Sydney Weiser singled in a run to make it 3-0. CBC scored two more in the fifth on a single by Johnson and a sac fly by Elizabeth Stoufer made it 5-0 and Kori Truelove finished the scoring in the seventh with a two-run shot of her own, her first dinger of the season.
