Lady Eagles Go 2-2 to Start AMC Play

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (3/22/25) – The Williams Baptist University softball team went 2-2 in its first American Midwest Conference contests of the season on Friday and Saturday with two wins against Mission and two losses against Central Baptist.

The Lady Eagles started the weekend with a doubleheader sweep of Mission on Friday by the final scores of 11-3 and 11-0.

Breann Thresher led the way at the plate in game one, going 3-for-4 with five RBI's.  

Thresher put the Eagles on top early with a two-run single in the first.  Williams added on in the second with an RBI double from Hannah Stallings and an RBI single from Kaylee Wolfe to extend the advantage to 4-0.  Mission got two back in the bottom half of the second to cut the lead in half.

A single from Natalia Watkins and two-run double from Thresher pushed WBU back out in front 7-2 in the fourth inning.  After a Patriot score in the fifth, the Eagles posted a four run sixth that included another RBI single from Thresher to secure the run-rule victory.

Emberlin Caldwell tossed all six innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out seven for her eighth win of the year.

WBU continued to dominate offensively in the latter half of the doubleheader, jumping in front on another two-run double from Thresher in the first inning.  

Busselle knocked a three-run homer into center field in the second to put WBU up 6-0.  The Lady Eagles posted another four-run inning in the third and added another run in the fourth on an RBI single from Rylee Boshell to go up 11-0.

Morgan Garner tossed a complete game shutout in five innings, allowing only two hits and no other baserunners.

Williams was back in action on Saturday to face Central Baptist for two games in Conway, Ark.  The Lady Eagles dropped both by the final scores of 2-1 and 3-1.

The Mustangs took game one of the twinbill 2-1 behind a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.

The lone Eagle run came on an RBI double from Ashlyn Michael in the top half of the sixth inning.

Emberlin Caldwell tossed all six innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs while striking out three.

The Lady Eagles fell in game two by the final score of 3-1.  The Mustangs took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Kaylee Wolfe doubled to bring home Stallings and cut the lead in half in the top of the third, but WBU was unable to scratch any more runs across.

CBC added an insurance run in the sixth to secure the sweep.

Morgan Garner tossed six innings for the Lady Eagles, allowing three runs.  

WBU moves to 17-8 overall on the season and begins conference play with a 2-2 record.  The Lady Eagles will return to the diamond with two games against William Woods on Friday, Mar. 28 in Fulton, Mo.  First pitch against the Owls is set for 2 p.m.
