Central Baptist holds UHSP to a run in DH sweep

CONWAY, AR – A Mustang lineup that is hitting .293 on the season exploded for a combined 26 hits between the two games as Central Baptist swept UHSP in an AMC doubleheader, 7-1 and 11-0 in five innings. Madalyn Tubbs went 4-for-7 with a double and drove in three runs for CBC. It was a tough day at the office for the Eutectics as they were held to six hits in each game.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS:

CENTRAL BAPTIST 7, UHSP 1

  • Kailey Samora singled to open the game and promptly scored on a Hunter Noto RBI single and UHSP led 1-0 after the top half of the first.
  • Madalyn Tubbs singled with one out in the home half of the first and two eventual errors allowed her to come all the way around to score to tie the game. Tubbs would double and score again in the third thanks to another UHSP error.
  • Anna Marie Sternisha had a two-run single and Abi West added an RBI single as CBC scored three runs on four hits in the fifth.
  • Tubbs and Elizabeth Stoufer each had a sac fly to drive in a run in the sixth.
  • Emma Henley (2-6) suffered the loss in the circle allowing seven runs, four earned on ten hits. She did not walk anyone and struck out one.
  • Alex Jeter (9-6) got the win for the Mustangs going the distance with her only run allowed being unearned. She fanned four and scattered six hits.
  • Mackenzie Nelson was 1-for-3 for the Eutectics and registered their lone extra base hit with a double.
  • Anna Marie Sternisha went 1-for-3 and drove in a pair for Central Baptist.
  • The game was delayed just over an hour in the top of the fifth due to rain.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS:

CENTRAL BAPTIST 11, UHSP 0 (5 INNINGS)

  • The Mustangs sent 12 batters to the plate in a 7-run first. Six of the first seven hitters reached as Trysten Murphy was lifted for Lexi Knoll after recording only one out. Kinley Johnson went 2-for-2 with four RBI and highlighted the inning with a two-run homerun. CBC had nine hits in the inning.
  • Johnson duplicated her feat from the first in the second inning with another two-run blast as CBC plated three in the second. Johnson leads the Mustangs in homers with eight.
  • Six different UHSP batters had one hit each with four of those hits coming from the top five in the lineup.
  • Trysten Murphy (1-2) had a tough outing going just one-third of an inning and getting touched for six runs on as many hits.
  • Lexi Nelson came in to pitch one inning of relief with Mackenzie Nelson going the final 2.2 innings. Knoll gave up four runs on seven hits and Nelson yielded a run on three hits.
  • Ryleigh Keele (1-0) took the win in the circle for Central Baptist tossing all five frames. She pitched shutout softball on six hits with a pair of strikeouts.

UP NEXT:

The Eutectics (7-15, 2-6 AMC) make a just over three-hour trip north to visit Springfield, MO on Saturday as they continue their conference season. On tap is a doubleheader with the Mission Patriots (5-20, 1-4 AMC) beginning at 1:00p. It has been a good week for the struggling Patriots as they had dropped their first 20 straight games to begin the season. This week, they took a pair from Kansas Christian, Lyon and then Harris-Stowe on Friday.
