Eagles Dominate Home Opener with Sweep Over Central Baptist

HOOKS, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana Softball kicked off their 2025 home opener in dominant fashion, sweeping the Lady Mustangs of Central Baptist College on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles outscored their opponent 22-2 over the two-game series.

Game 1: 

Central Baptist struck first, executing a squeeze bunt to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Eagles responded in the bottom of the third when Presley Humphrey's single brought in two runs to put TAMUT ahead. The Mustangs briefly tied the game in the fourth, but the Eagles exploded for eight runs in the fifth, securing a decisive 10-2 win.

TAMUT racked up 11 hits, with Brooke Usrey and Humphrey leading the charge, each recording three hits. The Eagles were flawless defensively and swiped three stolen bases. On the mound, Alexis Snyder earned the win, striking out seven and allowing just two runs over five innings.

Game 2: 

The Eagles wasted no time in Game 2, scoring six runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Raylene Zauzueta. They matched that scoring frenzy in the second, adding six more runs to extend their lead to 12-0.

Pitcher Rylee Glenn was lights out, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out three. Offensively, TAMUT pounded out 14 hits, with Madison Dingman leading with three, while Baylee Stautzenberger drove in three runs.

The Eagles will take on Centenary College of Louisiana in their next series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 16, at Hooks High School.
