Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director
St. Louis, Mo. – Heading to the road for the first time in over a month, Central Baptist College men's basketball looked to remain undefeated in American Midwest Conference play tonight against the Eutectics of the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis at the UHSP Gymnasium. CBC (14-4, 5-0 AMC) never trailed, leading by as many as 19 before finishing with an 85-71 win over UHSP (1-15, 0-5 AMC).
The Mustangs, who were missing seven players due to illness, were led in scoring by Jonas Carlisle and Kyle Harding, who both reached double-figures on the night. CBC was able to win with strong shooting, as the Mustangs shot 49 percent from the floor and went 14-16 at the free throw line, with 54 of their 85 points coming inside the paint.
GAME FLOW
CBC opened the game by scoring the first 11 points and had an 18-2 lead less than six minutes into the contest. The lead would drop to nine shortly before halftime, but CBC took a 46-36 lead to the locker room at the break.
The second half was a half of runs for both teams as UHSP scored the first four points of the half, before being answered by a Carlisle bucket and then scoring a three of their own to make the lead 48-43. A three from Carlisle, back-to-back Christian White dunks, and a layup by Carlisle pushed the lead back to 14, 57-43 before the Eutectics went on a 12-4 run to cut the lead to 61-55 with 8:42 left. A Devin Foster layup followed, which sparked a 9-0 run to make it 70-55 with 6:20 left and the lead never dropped below nine the rest of the night.
