Gulf Shores, Ala. – Coming off a pair of close losses to open the Gulf Coast Invitational, Central Baptist College softball was back at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex today for games against Point and Brenau. CBC (9-15) captured two wins on the day, downing the Skyhawks 4-1 before coming back from down 6-0 to beat the Tigers 8-6.
Coach Keith Hinson picked up his 100th win in charge of the Mustangs with the win over Brenau. He joins Jason Anderson and Jordon Jones in the 100 win club for the softball program.
GAME ONE – CBC 4, POINT 1
The Mustangs plated two runs in the first inning on a single by Abi West and a bases loaded walk to Elizabeth Stoufer. CBC made it 3-0 in the second on a single by Taviah Bradley and increased the lead to 4-0 in the fourth on another single by Bradley. That was enough for Isabella Sawyers, who picked up her first win, throwing a complete game and scattering eight hits while allowing just one run with three walks and six strikeouts.
GAME TWO – CBC 8, BRENAU 6
Brenau jumped out early on CBC, posting one run in the first, two in the second, one in the third, one in the fourth and one in the sixth to lead 6-0 after six. CBC then picked up all eight runs in the seventh inning via a walk to Baylie Ainsworth, a single by Madalyn Tubbs, a hit by pitch to Bradley, a walk to Kori Truelove, a walk to Elizabeth Stoufer, a wild pitch, another walk to Kinley Johnson and an error. Hailey Marange, who came in and got the final two outs of the sixth, set down the side in order in the seventh to pick up her second win, as she allowed just one hit with one K in relief.
