Mustangs Drop Series Finale To Scots

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

North Little Rock, Ark. – After splitting the first two games of their American Midwest Conference series with the Lyon Scots, Central Baptist College baseball hosted Lyon in a Sunday matinee this afternoon at DeSalvo Memorial Stadium. CBC (14-16, 3-3 AMC) kept it close until the ninth when Lyon (10-12, 5-1 AMC) tacked on the decisive runs to hand the Mustangs a 12-3 defeat.

Lyon jumped on CBC early, scoring two in the first and three in the third to make it 5-0 through two-and-a-half innings. A single off the bat of Luke McBride cut the deficit to 5-1 in the third and a groundout by Danilo Taborda made it 5-2 in the fifth. CBC continued to chip away in the seventh when Austin Teal laced his first home run of the season over the center field fence to make it 5-3. Lyon would then tack on seven runs in the ninth inning to bring the score final. CBC picked scoreless outings on the mound from Julio Escobar, Austin LeJeune and Landon Hitchcock, all in relief. Escobar went one-and-a-third surrendering just two hits. LeJeune allowed just one hit and struck out five in four innings and Hitchcock faced two batters, walking one and striking out the other. McBride led the way offensively with three hits and an RBI.

CBC heads to the road for their next seven contests, beginning with a trip to AMC rival Missouri Baptist on Friday. First pitch from St. Louis is scheduled for noon.
