Little Rock, Ark. – With their usual home field, Burns Park, out of commission for the remainder of the season, Central Baptist College baseball began their two-week barnstorming tour today with an American Midwest Conference doubleheader against Columbia College at Gary Hogan Field. CBC (16-23, 4-10 AMC) dropped both ends of the doubleheader to CC (28-12, 11-3 AMC) 7-6 and 12-1.
GAME ONE – COLUMBIA 7, CBC 6
CC jumped on the Mustangs early, scoring three in the first and one in the third to lead 4-0 after three innings. CBC finally broke through in the fourth thanks to a two-run single by Danilo Taborda and a sac fly from Kyle Bass that made it 4-3. Columbia would score their final runs in a three run sixth before Cey Barkume hit a solo home run in the bottom half to make it 7-4 after six. Ben Slate got into and out of trouble in the seventh inning, keeping Columbia off the board. Luke McBride would single with one out in the seventh and advance to second two batters later after a hit by pitch. Gabe Walker then made it 7-5 with an RBI single and Barkume made it 7-6 with an RBI single of his own. Danilo Taborda would follow with a chopper to third base that resulted in a collision between CC's third baseman and Gage Harris, with Harris being ruled out on interference, ending the game.
GAME TWO – COLUMBIA 12, CBC 1
The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the second and it stayed that way until the fifth when Nick Aide brought in a run with a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 2-1. The game got away from the Mustangs in the final three frames as CBC allowed two in the seventh, five in the eight and three in the ninth to bring the score final.
