#MustangsWin! Baseball Takes The First Two Games From Mission!

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Ozark, Mo. – Playing a new American Midwest Conference opponent for the first time this season, Central Baptist College baseball took on the Patriots of Mission University today at U.S. Ballpark. CBC (10-10, 8-2 AMC) had late heroics in both games, sweeping the day 7-5 and 10-8 over Mission (12-3, 7-2 AMC).

GAME ONE – CBC 7, MISSION 5

Mission took a 1-0 lead in the first before CBC jumped on Patriots with five in the third to take a five run lead. Brayden Mayencourt started the scoring with a two-run double to give CBC the lead, which was followed by a two-run triple by Chett McDaniel. The inning was capped by a run scoring on an error and CBC led 5-1 after three. The Mustangs stretched the lead to 6-1 on another single by Mayencourt in the fourth before Mission added a couple to cut the lead to 6-3. CBC's final run scored in the fifth on a bases loaded walk to Mayencourt, his fourth RBI of the day, to make it 7-3 before MU scored two in the seventh to cap the scoring. Landon Hitchcock got the win by getting the final out of the fourth inning. Jackson Pope pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just a hit while walking four.

GAME TWO – CBC 10, MISSION 8 (EIGHT INNINGS)

The second game started the same way, with Mission taking a 1-0 lead in the first. CBC scored six in the third this time thanks to a two-run single by Aaron Prince, a single by Josh Lumsden, a sac fly by Garrett Fitts and a two-run single by Devin Miller to make it 6-1. Mission then put up seven runs in the bottom half and the Mustangs trailed 8-6 after three. The Mustangs wouldn't go away, however, getting a run in the fourth on an error and then tying the game at 8-8 with a pinch-hit single by Mayencourt in the sixth. When the game headed to extra innings again, Julian Rodriguez came through and brought in the final two runs with a single to allow Kevin Toala to shut the door. Toala got the win in relief, throwing the final four innings and allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out one. Landon Hitchcock and Eric de Jesus also combined for one-and-two-thirds innings of one run (none earned) relief, allowing just two hits and a walk with de Jesus picking up a strikeout.
