#MustangsWin! CBC's Offense Explodes On Historic Day For Coach Brister!

            Fulton, Mo. – Looking to try and keep pace in a very competitive American Midwest Conference, Central Baptist College baseball played the first two games of a four-game series today against the Owls of William Woods University inside the Backer Sports Complex. CBC (20-13, 17-5 AMC) swept the day, pounding out 28 runs and 27 hits in wins over WWU by scores of 19-6 and 10-7.

            Head coach Dr. Aaron Brister reached his milestone 500th career victory with the win in game two, his 349th in charge of the Mustangs. Brayden Mayencourt also had a huge day with eight hits and 11 RBIs in the doubleheader.

GAME ONE – CBC 19, WWU 6

            CBC took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a pair of wild pitches that scored George Astacio and Brennan Duhe. WWU would tie the game in the bottom of the first before the Mustangs retook the lead in the second, plating three runs on a two-run homer by Chett McDaniel, his second, and an RBI single by Mayencourt. The lead was trimmed to 5-4 by the Owls in the bottom half, but the Mustangs put the game away in the fourth, scoring four runs on a Mayencourt single, a two-run double by Jaxon Kirkhuff and a double by Cameron Harden to make it 9-4. The Owls tallied another run in the fifth to make it 9-5 before CBC scored four in the sixth on an error, a two-run single by Ryan Dauphinee and a single by Brayden Mayencourt and six in the seventh for all of their runs. Josh Lumsden brought in the first run of the seven with a single, followed by a single by Astacio, a bases loaded walk to Mayencourt, a bases loaded hit by pitch to Devin Miller, another bases loaded walk, this time to Harden and a groundout by Fitts. William Woods scored the final run of the game on a wild pitch in the seventh. Ryan Meyer got his fifth win, scattering eight hits over four-and-one-third innings, allowing five runs (four earned) with two walks and four strikeouts. Landon Hitchcock retired both batters he faced in the fifth, including a strikeout and Jackson Pope finished the game, allowing a run on three hits with three Ks.

GAME TWO – CBC 10, WWU 7

            Mayencourt started the scoring in the second game with his third home run of the season, a two-run blast to make it 2-0 in the first. The Owls cut the lead in half in the bottom half before Mayencourt struck again in the third, this time launching a three-run home run to make it 5-1 in favor of the Mustangs. WWU made it 5-2 in the bottom of the third before a solo home run by Aaron Prince gave CBC a 6-2 lead in the fourth, followed by a wild pitch that scored McDaniel to make it 7-2 and a single by Mayencourt to make it 8-2. A Prince double in the fifth gave CBC a 9-2 lead before it was cut to 9-5 in the bottom half. Mayencourt would then drive in his seventh run of the game with a single in the sixth to make it 10-5 before a pair of unearned runs scored in the sixth for the Owls. Kirkhuff picked up his third win of the season, surrendering five runs on seven hits with a pair of walks and three Ks in four-and-two-thirds innings. Hitchcock struck out the only batter he faced in the fifth and Pope allowed a pair of unearned runs in the sixth on a hit and walk while striking out one. Josh Albat picked up the save, striking out three and walking two while allowing a hit in a scoreless seventh to secure win number 500 for Coach Brister!
