Springfield, Mo. – Following a home-opening sweep on Thursday afternoon, Central Baptist College softball was back on the road today at the University Softball Field for a doubleheader against Evangel. CBC (7-13) split the double dip with EU (10-4) winning game one 3-1 before dropping game two 8-2.
GAME ONE – CBC 3, EVANGEL 1
The Mustangs broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning when Elizabeth Stoufer singled home Taviah Bradley to make it 1-0 CBC. Evangel would tie the game in the fifth with a single, but that's all that starter Alex Jeter surrendered. CBC grabbed the lead in the seventh on a two-run error and Jeter wrapped up her second complete game and victory of the week in the bottom half, scattering 10 hits over her seven innings with two Ks and a walk.
GAME TWO – EVANGEL 8, CBC 2
The Valor jumped ahead early in game two before CBC tied the game at one in the second on an RBI single by Anna Marie Sternisha. Two runs in the fourth and two in the sixth put Evangel up 8-1 before a Taylyn Shuffield RBI fielder's choice in the seventh wrapped up the scoring.
UP NEXT
The Mustangs head to Gulf Shores, Ala., this weekend for the Gulf Coast Invitational. Friday's two games will be against Tennessee-Southern and Mobile, with first pitches slated for 9 and 11:15 a.m.
