Conway, Ark. – Looking for a season sweep, Central Baptist College women's basketball hosted the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University in front of a packed house for Homecoming at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (9-10, 7-8 AMC) got a buzzer-beating three and a steal with one second left in overtime to clip MBU (5-16, 5-10 AMC) 81-80 in overtime for the second time this season.

Five Mustangs finished in double figures scoring, led by 17 each from Aliya Grotjohn, Raigan Head and Rhys Anderson, while the hero of the day, Riley Whittington, added 13 and Addison Hudspeth chipped in with 10. The game featured 12 ties and 14 lead changes, with neither team leading by more than nine.

GAME FLOW

CBC trailed 26-20 after one quarter, 39-38 at halftime and led 52-51 after three quarters. Head extended the lead to 55-51 with a three 15 seconds into the final period and followed with a layup to push it to 57-51 with 8:57 to go. MBU would go on a run and led 70-67 with 1:36 to play. With 24 seconds left, Grotjohn hit a pair of free throws to make it 70-69 and, following a split at the line with nine seconds left, Whittington stepped up and tied the game at 71 with six seconds left to force overtime.

In overtime, MBU struck first on a layup with 4:14 to go to lead 73-71. The score would stay that way until an Anderson layup with 2:38 to go tied the game at 73. MBU would retake the lead with 2:19 to go and a pair of Anderson free throws with 1:49 left tied the game at 75. A jumper by MBU with 52 seconds to play put them back in front by two before a three from head on the next possession gave CBC a 78-77 lead with 36 seconds to go. MBU would knock down a three with 26 seconds left to take an 80-78 lead and setup the drama at the end. With five seconds to go, CBC inbounded the basketball to Whittington, who hoisted a three that went through the net with a second to go. On the inbound pass, Whittington stole the ball to preserve the win.
