
#MustangsWin! CBC Sweeps Harris-Stowe To Start AMC Play 2-0!

St. Louis, Mo. – Coming off their first win of both the season and American Midwest Conference play last night, Central Baptist College volleyball was on the court at the Emerson Performance Center this afternoon for another AMC clash with the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State University. CBC (2-5, 2-0 AMC) swept HSSU (4-13, 0-2 AMC) winning by scores of 26-24, 25-20, and 25-23.
Madeline Freeman led the way in kills with 13 while adding 12 assists and 16 digs for her second consecutive triple-double and third of the season. Brooke Schmitz led the way in assists with 14 while Kailee Walker led with 17 digs, while Schmitz chipped in with 12 of her own and Kiana Chapa added 11. The Mustangs had 42 kills and hit .174 while HSSU had 38 kills and hit .139. The key to the match was service. CBC had four aces and four errors in 74 attempts while HSSU had only three aces and six errors.
MATCH FLOW
The Mustangs led in set one for the first 36 points, until trailing late 20-18. They would chip away at the deficit, and, trailing 21-23, CBC would close the set with a kill by Faith Stone, an attack error by the Hornets, an ace by Freeman, a kill by Stowe, and then three straight kills to end the match by Stone, Lily Brister, and Freeman. Set two saw neither team lead by more than five points with the Mustangs holding the lead for most of the set. The final set saw CBC win the first two points, drop eight in a row, and then claw their way back by winning 10 of 11 points and trailing only once the rest of the match as CBC closed it out with a kill by Xiangelisse Velazquez.
