Conway, Ark. - `Hosting Crowley's Ridge for the first time as an American Midwest Conference opponent, Central Baptist College softball took on the Pioneers today in their AMC opener at City of Colleges Park. CBC (13-15, 2-0 AMC) swept the doubleheader from CRC (9-9, 2-2 AMC), run-ruling the Pioneers 8-0 in game one before winning on a walk-off double 3-2 in game two.
GAME ONE – CBC 8, CRC 0 (FIVE INNINGS)
The Mustangs got the scoring started quickly as Kori Truelove made it 1-0 in the first on a groundout. Kinley Johnson then made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly which was immediately followed by a double by Anna Marie Sternisha to make it 3-0 after one inning. CBC would add two more in the third on a double by Taylyn Shuffield and an error following a single by Elizabeth Stoufer. Baylie Ainsworth's two-run homer in the third, her first of the season, made it 7-0 and Johnson ended the game in the fifth with her eighth dinger of the season. Alex Jeter was dominant in her sixth win of the season, throwing a complete game two-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts.
GAME TWO – CBC 3, CRC 2
Crowley's Ridge scored the first run of game two in the first to put CBC down 1-0 before the Mustangs tied the game in the second when Taviah Bradley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. CRC would put CBC down 2-1 in the fourth, but the Mustangs answered again as Stoufer tied the game in the fifth with a sac fly, setting up seventh inning drama. Isabella Sawyers, the second pitcher of the game for CBC, hit the first batter she faced and walked the second one, forcing Jeter to come in to relieve her. Jeter would get a fielder's choice and a strikeout before Elizabeth Stoufer gunned down a runner trying to score to preserve the tie and set up a walk-off win. Shuffield started the inning with a beautiful bunt and moved to second on a single by Bradley. Following a double steal, Madalyn Tubbs would double to right center to score Shuffield and send the fans home with a sweep. Jeter earned her second win of the day, facing four batters in the seventh and striking out one as she, Sawyers and starter Ryleigh Keele combined for a season-high nine strikeouts.
